The Joys Of Life Railway

Penrhyn Garden Railway

Resident Locos

Glyn

'Glyn' is the only loco that was left at the railway following the change of ownership, it is a steam-outline model of the Glyn Valley Tramway locomotive 'Glyn'. This battery-electric 0-4-2 is a nicely detailed model, which was constructed by Dave Yates for Alan Cliff who in turn gave it to Terry Robinson who left it for the railway when the site was sold. In the photo it is trailed by the G.V.T Granite wagon which at the time contained the leisure batteries that powered the loco, it has since been converted to 2.4 Ghz radio control and the battery is now contained within the loco.

Meg

'Meg' is a 2008 built Ride on Railways 'Hercules' fitted with the ‘shunter’ body and is named after one the railway's owners previous dogs(allthough it does not currently carry nameplates). The loco has preformed exceedingly well, the railway has some rather steep gradients but 'Meg' just glides up them.

Charles - Terry Aspin

'Charles' is a stunning model of this Penrhyn Railway main line Hunslet, it suits the railway perfectly due to it's awsome power rating and because we are situated less than a mile from where the prototype used to run.

Alice - Maxitrak/Accucraft

This Alice had its first run in Bethesda, the initial signs were very promising, but it is yet to fully stretch its wheels.

G.V.T Granite Waggon No.123

This is near enough a scale model of one of the Glyn Valley Tramway's 4 ton granite waggons, the lettering is certainly very nicely done, it is rather simply numbered 123! It saw use in the past as 'Glyn's' battery waggon, it is fitted with side buffers to make it more compatiable with other stock, but these can be removed to reveal a centre buffer making it prototypical.

Redhill Brickworks Waggon/Coach

A freelance sit-in bogie coach, made to look like an open bogie waggon, lettered 'REDHILL BRICKWORKS', it is in need of some work with regards to a new lower floor.

G.V.T Guard's Van No.9

This guard's van is based around a Glyn Valley Tramway guard's van. It is fitted with brake, allthough requires an extension to operate, the roof is removable revealing inside detail. P.G.R stands for 'Penrhyn Garden Railway', which is one of the Joys of Life Railway's titles.
